Working Principle

UNITORQ USB & UMB series brakes are inherently fail-safe and are widely used in applications requiring emergency stopping. In the event of a power failure, the brake stays engaged for extended durations, making it highly suitable for such conditions. These DC fail- safe brakes operate based on the electromagnetic principle.

Principle of Operation

When electric current is supplied to the stator (brake coil), the armature plate is pulled towards the stator against the spring force, thereby releasing the rotor. Once the current is switched off, the strong compression springs push the armature plate back to its original position, clamping the rotor (friction plate) and generating braking torque. The Unitorq DC fail-safe brake is also equipped with a manual release feature, and various special options can be provided upon request.

UNITORQ Rectifiers

Since UNITORQ brakes operate with DC coil systems, a rectifier is required to convert the incoming AC supply into DC current. UNITORQ rectifiers are CE certified and designed for fast response, ensuring quick and precise brake operation.

  • Wide temperature range from -25 to +60 c
  • Flexible mounting position available
  • CE Certified
  • High interference immunity
  • Very fast acting
